The Worshipful Company of Grocers

A long-term supporter of the Foundation

The Worshipful Company of Grocers is one of the ‘Great Twelve’ Livery Companies of the City of London, the foundations of the Company can be traced back to the Pepperers, who established a Fraternity in 1345, although they were active in London from at least 1180.

The Grocers’ Company Charity is a grant-awarding body; our mission is to invest in and support a broad range of UK registered charities which together make a demonstrable positive impact on public benefit.

Education is of long-standing importance to the Grocers’ Company. Our relationship with Reed’s School started in 1821 to help the founder build his first school, and in 1868 the Grocers contributed further to build a new wing. Since the early 1900s, we provide bursary support. The intention is to promote participation, drive attainment and encourage retention among talented students who need financial assistance. We are committed to Reed’s mission and additionally provide capital project funding support, and each year their annual fundraising event is held at the Grocers’ Hall.
